Slippery Morning Ahead

The above graphic depicts the ECMWF model forecast for our area as of 6 AM tomorrow morning.

Precipitation is likely to begin close to midnight as rain before becoming a period of mixed precipitation up until about 4 AM. A danger exists that some freezing rain may fall as well for a period of time before everything becomes all snow.

The snowfall could be moderate to heavy for a period of up to 3 hours or so before things begin to wind down towards sunrise.

By the time the precipitation has ended there should be varying amounts of snow and ice accumulation throughout the area.

Accumulation totals do not appear to be as ample as they did twelve hours or so ago, but still will present a challenge during the morning rush hour as temperatures are expected to hover at or just below freezing. Areas south and east of Salisbury may record a dusting to an inch of snow, while the Salisbury area and points west will record more.

I would expect at most 2 inches of snow in Salisbury. The Sharptown area and points west towards Cambridge may see upwards of 3 to 4 inches of snow.

Models do suggest that a very narrow band of snow, somewhere over the area, will develop towards morning with very heavy snow that could leave some people with up to 5 inches of snow. That would probably be just to the NNW of Salisbury.

The remainder of the day should become mostly sunny and windy with temps holding steady near 32 degrees.
