In the deep freeze today

Today will likely be the coldest day of the young year as high temperatures will struggle to get past the freezing mark.

Morning snow should end by daybreak with accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 inches on a line running west from Salisbury to Cambridge. On average, about one and a half inches of snow is what you can look for in your back yard when the sun rises. Snow totals could be higher in isolated areas.

At the SBYwx.blog weather station snow measures an even one inch at 5 AM with a temperature of 30 degrees. Temps have fallen 7 degrees since midnight and all of the snow has fallen in just an hour.

Precipitation, which began as rain and a wintry mix, turned to snow around 4 AM and is falling at a steady rate. With the falling temperatures and snow on top of freezing roadways driving is not advised this morning. Additionally, visibility is extremely poor.

Dorchester County schools have already closed for the day. I would expect others to follow.
