What if everyday was 45 degrees?
The next 18 days, from January 10 to January 27, represent historically the coldest period of time throughout the year in Salisbury, Maryland.
That does not mean that colder days cannot obviously occur outside those dates, but it simply indicates that throughout our recorded weather history the average daytime high temperature on these dates is a consistent 45 degrees. That represents the single coldest high temperature average throughout the calendar year.
Yesterday’s average historical high temp in Salisbury was 46 degrees. That is why yesterday’s actual high of 66 degrees seemed so balmy.
After this 18 day period ends Salisbury’s average daytime high will again return to 46 degrees on January 29.
Average temps will remain there until February 5 when it will actually creep back up to 47 degrees, allowing us to realize that spring will be slowly approaching.
When will we average 50 degrees for a daily high? Not until February 22.
While we’re at it, a 60 degree average daily high arrives around baseball’s opening of the season, on March 29.
How about 70 degrees? April 26.
June 5 brings an average 80 degree day.
Lucky for us, even though we experience many hot and humid 90 degree days in the summer, the Delmarva Peninsula never averages 90 degrees. There is, however, a 19 day stretch, from July 6 through July 24, when Salisbury’s average daily high temperature reaches 88 degrees.
Beginning on July 25, we’re all down hill!
Well, what about today? Rain is likely today. Temperatures in the Salisbury area are in the upper 50’s as the day begins and are likely to remain there throughout the day.
Showers will continue tonight and lead to a much cooler Sunday where morning clouds will give way to partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. A high of 47, just about normal, is expected.
