Shower activity that brought us 1.04 inches of rain should end very early and lead to an otherwise cloudy day near Salisbury. Temperatures should only reach about 45 degrees on what is officially the government’s observance of Washington’s Birthday and not President’s Day as we so often informally refer to it.
By U.S. law (5 U.S.C. § 6103), the third Monday in February is designated as “Washington’s Birthday” — that’s the official name used for the federal holiday observed by the federal government and federal employees.
As commander of the Continental Army, George Washington led the colonies to victory in the Revolutionary War and later set the foundational precedents as the first president. We can thank him for the two term limit and the peaceful transfer of power.
So, enjoy your Washington’s Birthday observance and reflect upon just how far America has come in choosing dignified statesmen who not only lead us to greatness and glory, but serve as beacons of hope to people everywhere in need of a glorious role model and advocate of democracy.
Come to think of it, America, we seem to have slipped up along the way!
