Initiated in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson and activist Denis Hayes, Earth Day has grown into a global movement involving over a billion people in more than 190 countries. It has been instrumental in establishing environmental policies and raising awareness about ecological issues.

Earth Day 2025 is today, marking the 55th anniversary of this global environmental movement. This year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” emphasizes the urgent need to triple global renewable energy generation by 2030 to combat climate change and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

The Earth Day observance in Salisbury may include some early morning showers followed by partial clearing in the afternoon. The expected high temperature is 79 degrees.

The remainder of the work week should include partly cloudy skies with temps in the mid 70’s before rain likely returns on Saturday.
