Outlook is as clear as mud

Yesterday was the coldest day in Salisbury in over three years. The high temperature reached 29 degrees.

We start out in the teens this morning before warming up to near 45 degrees today and near 50 degrees tomorrow. The cold spell that we’ve just endured is nothing compared to the extreme weather experienced on Mount Washington in New Hampshire.

While the next couple of days will provide close to typical January conditions the outlook a few days out through the weekend is about as clear as mud.

The two major weather models (ECMWF and GFS) agree that a major winter storm is developing for the east coast this weekend. That, apparently, is the easy part because they are in total disagreement at this point in time as to who gets what and when. That literally makes the weekend storm outlook as clear as mud.

Despite the muddy outlook folks on Delmarva will want to keep an eye on a situation that is still days from materializing. No one should hang their hat on a weather model forecast for a period of time that is 4 to 5 days in the future, so I won’t. We’ll know more in a couple of days.
