
Franklin D. Roosevelt was diagnosed with polio, at age 39, on this date in 1921. While polio was rare in people who were not children FDR, nonetheless, was a victim. It was 30 years later that a vaccine was finally created and no cases have occurred in the United States since 1979.
A lot has transpired in 100 years. I hope the lesson is obvious.
Americans can be thankful that polio is nonexistent as we go about enjoying an August summer day with temperatures near 92 degrees.

The heat and humidity will remain for the rest of the week. Polio is nowhere to be found, but Fred may be another story.
