So…you’re saying there’s a chance!

Long suffering lovers of snow on the Delmarva Peninsula are looking for any sign of a snowflake, let alone a significant snowfall.  Some of us can feign excitement even when chances are slim, and slim they are.

Clouds will thicken today giving the skies that “look” that so many of us have often seen just prior to a snowfall.  A snow storm is developing to our south.  People who have lived here for years are aware that our most significant snows come from that direction.  Sure enough, southeast Virginia and North Carolina are poised to pick up several inches of snow late this afternoon and tonight.  Yippee!

Unfortunately, the forecast cutoff line to the north appears at this time to be a line from Richmond to Salisbury, and south.  What does that mean?  It means don’t get your hopes up.

I have been tracking this system for a few days and each successive model run brings the precipitation line a bit farther north.  If this is to continue, then who knows?  I’m just saying to those who want to hear it, that, yes there is a chance!

Temperatures are expected to plunge to the low 20’s overnight, so if we even see a light dusting of snow we can expect roads to be slippery.  Any burst of snow should last for just a couple of hours as a front passes through ushering in cold sunshine for Friday.  Friday’s high temps should reside in the upper 30’s.
