Solar Eclipse is this afternoon

Today is the day that, for many of us, will offer a once in a lifetime opportunity to observe what is sure to be a spectacular celestial event. It is not that a total solar eclipse is rare; occurring on average once every 18 months. They often do not appear in a location that offers many millions of Americans the opportunity to experience its wondrous impact on our world below.

For those that may have missed the important timeline of the solar eclipse in the Salisbury area here are the details once again.

Maryland is not in the path of totality, but we will experience a greater degree of totality than we did in 2017.

The weather is expected to cooperate with mostly sunny skies and a few passing clouds. Temperatures will reach the mid 60’s. Protect your eyes and hope that one of those clouds does not obscure the sun between 3:00 and 3:30 PM.

In 2017 there was a noticeable 6.1 degree temperature drop on Delmarva when the eclipse occurred. A similar scenario is likely to pan out this afternoon. The graphical data will be shared here tomorrow.

The next solar eclipse in the US will be on August 23, 2044. That is a Tuesday for those who want to mark their calendars. That eclipse, however, will offer less of an impact to our area as the path of totality will include many of our northwestern states and Canada.
