Tropical Storm Ophelia will bring periods of heavy rain and wind overnight to the Eastern Shore. This will lead to a nasty Saturday with more rain and winds that could gust to 50 mph. Coastal flooding, both on the Atlantic and the Chesapeake Bay, is likely. Embedded tornadoes are possible as well.
Since tropical systems sometimes behave erratically it is difficult to pinpoint how much rain we will see. At this point in time storm totals of at least 2 inches seems likely in most areas. Some areas that are affected by training of thunderstorms could receive up to 5 inches of rain before the storm ends.
It appears as though once the rain begins this evening that we may see the precipitation continue on and off with varying degrees of intensity for about 30 hours. Temperatures should dip into the mid 60’s tonight and reach the low to mid 70’s on Saturday.
The official Tropical Storm Warning goes through 1 PM on Sunday.
