Those following the increasingly active tropics may have noted that some systems are labeled as hurricanes and tropical storms when their respective low pressure systems take on certain characteristics. There are also systems that are called invests.
An invest, short for investigation, simply means that the National Hurricane Center has identified a low pressure system in the tropics that bears watching since it may have the potential to develop into a stronger storm.
Yesterday, an invest in the Gulf of Mexico strengthened into Tropical Storm Henry. It is expected to affect the Texas coast.
There are no such systems affecting the mid-Atlantic at this time. Our weather, in fact, both today and tomorrow should offer a mix of sun and clouds with comfortable high temperatures in the low 80’s. Clouds may thicken a bit late on Thursday with a slight chance of an overnight shower.
