Let’s face it. While our area is suffering through a weather inconvenience there are large portions of the US that would trade places with us. We should be thankful that we are not enduring a blizzard.
Here is a timeline indicating how, despite ending the day with sunny skies, the weather on Delmarva has gone downhill throughout the day.
The graphic above shows the wide ranging temperatures over our area at 10 AM today. Note that while Salisbury was registering a 50 degree reading there were areas west of the nation’s capital that were already in the mid 30’s.
The temperature reached the freezing mark of 32 degrees, under partly sunny skies, at 1:20 PM…a 28 degree drop since midnight. Winds continue to howl.

The strong winds have affected traffic on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and is causing tidal flooding all along the bay and its tributaries.
At 4 PM temperatures in Salisbury dipped into the upper 20’s. The SBYwx.blog thermometer registered 29 degrees at that time. With the dewpoint reading of 15 degrees it is becoming apparent that tonight will be downright frigid.
Just prior to sunset this afternoon the view from Riverside Drive shows the effects of the flooding along the banks of the Wicomico River.
At 7 PM tonight the temperature in Salisbury stands at 23 degrees and the dewpoint is 9 degrees. That indicates that low temps by Christmas Eve morning could likely be near 10 degrees.
Here are temperature readings across the region this evening at 7 PM. Temps have dropped in Salisbury 37 degrees in the past 19 hours. Note that the DC area is already in the teens.
