The first full day of autumn arrives with a brisk wind, sunny skies, temps in the upper 60’s and Hurricane Fiona mere miles away in the Atlantic Ocean.
We can be thankful that yesterday’s cold front that swept through our area late in the day will push Fiona away from us, as evidenced in the following image. It was a rather close call.
After bringing hurricane conditions to Bermuda, #Fiona – currently a Cat 4 – will phase with a trough emerging from the Northeast.
As it transitions to an extratropical storm, it will deepen and expand. Dangerous conditions are expected in Atlantic Canada by late Friday.

The big drop in daytime temps is a sure sign that summer is technically gone. While we will still enjoy some warm fall days we will witness as well the steady decline in overnight temperatures. Tonight, for example, will dip into the upper 40’s.
Saturday, under mostly sunny skies, should see the thermometer rise into the low 70’s. We are now left wondering what may become of several tropical systems lurking at sea.
2PM EDT Thurs Tropical Outlook: We are monitoring 3 systems in the Atlantic for development in 5 days
1. SE Caribbean with high chances (🔴 90%)
2. S central Atl with low chances (🟡30%)
3. Off the coast of Africa with medium chances (🟠 60%)
