Cold and dry day allows time to prepare for a winter storm

Let’s get today out of the way. We’ll see sunshine with temperatures reaching the upper 30’s after a chilly morning start with Salisbury temps in the mid teens.

Clouds will thicken overnight and lead to an overcast Friday where temps will reach the low 40’s before precipitation arrives around sunset.

The NWS has issued a Winter Storm Watch beginning at 7 PM on Friday. An accumulating snow will fall overnight and into Saturday. The precip could begin as light rain or a wintry mix.

The Eastern Shore, apparently in the bullseye of the impending nor’easter, can conservatively expect 6 to 10 inches of snow towards the Chesapeake Bay and perhaps 12 ot more inches of snow from Salisbury to the ocean.

A slight shift to the east with the storm system, however, could cut snow totals in half, so it is imperative that one keep an eye on changes to the forecast over the next 24 hours. There are subtle signs that this is a strong possibility. We will know more this afternoon.

The latest run of the ECMWF global model has maintained its outlook from last evening for snowfall totals on Delmarva. Here is a projected look through 7 PM on Saturday.

By all means please be aware that high winds, coupled with an astronomical high tide, can put people and property in danger. Blowing and drifting snow is expected to be an issue as well.

A late afternoon update will be provided on this blog. Updates can also be received by following @SalisburyWx on Twitter.
