SALISBURY WEATHER

What’s up with the winter weather?

On which side of the question do you fall? Is climate change to blame for the nation’s wicked weather, or is it just one of those things?

Well, in either case, it is February, isn’t it?

The nation’s mid section and the deep south have been experiencing some devastatingly fierce weather, with blizzard conditions that have led to record breaking cold temperatures, and power outages that are making it difficult to stay warm and safe.

Delmarva is likely to experience some wintry precipitation today.  It seems like each winter event is followed closely by another.

I know that planet Earth has been around a lot longer than me and has certainly experienced the ebb and flow of historically extreme conditions.

Today is my wife’s birthday….again!  Happy Birthday, dear!  I can recall many instances of winter weather that have blasted our area in the past, and most of them have occurred around my wife’s February birthday.

The great blizzard of 1979 actually began as a light snowfall on this date before transforming into the storm of a lifetime with close to 2 feet of snow.  That will not be the case today.

Snow is expected to become a wintry mix this morning before changing to a steady rain later in the day. The current morning temperature of 32 degrees will not rise much past the mid 30’s today.

We may pick up 3/4 inch of rain on top of the snow and ice, making for quite the mess on top of already saturated grounds. Areas prone to flooding on Delmarva should be on the alert.

Salisbury can expect an inch or less of accumulating snowfall and perhaps a tenth of an inch of ice. The ice represents the greatest danger when it comes to traveling.

Light rain will continue on Friday morning perhaps mixing with snow showers in the afternoon. A high temp near 39 degrees is expected.
