Character vs. The Character

Some people often believe that they know everything about an individual because they know one thing about that individual.

I would be greatly surprised if there was any regular visitor to this blog who would be shocked if I told them that I voted for Joe Biden as the next President of the United States. Some, if not most, would be surprised, however, to learn that I voted for three women and a republican this past week.

In elections past, I have not one time voted a straight party ticket…not once. My record in past presidential elections includes a vote for a republican once and a vote for a third party candidate once. I, like many Americans, have voted for winners as well as losers in a presidential election.

While it matters to me whether the stance a candidate takes on issues resonates with my values, it matters more to me that the candidate possesses high character.

Four years ago I did not vote for Hillary Clinton because I had some reservations about her character. Plus, I thought that she was going to easily win anyway. I reasoned that a symbolic vote for a third candidate would not affect the outcome of the election. There was no way that I could justify voting for Donald Trump. His actions during the past 4 years has not changed my mind. It is why I did not vote for Donald Trump again this year. If he wins this time it will not be my fault.

For those of us who will never vote in an election until we have the perfect candidate I predict that you will never vote.

The lesson that I learned in 2016 is that it is foolish to support a candidate that one knows cannot win. I wasted my vote and will not do so again.

I am about to layout my reasons for supporting Joe Biden. For those who do not want to hear it, the windy weather forecast is at the bottom of this post.

Joe Biden personifies the judgement and character that I want to see in elected public officials. Donald Trump is just a character who will do anything to anybody who stands in his way, so that he gets what he wants.
Joe Biden banks in Delaware. Donald Trump has a bank in China.
Joe Biden displays empathy. Donald Trump displays contempt.
Joe Biden will surround himself with experts in their field. Donald Trump fires people who do not display allegiance..
Joe Biden cares about the rule of law. Donald Trump incites violence that would be in violation of the FBI’s definition of terrorism; “the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives”.
Joe Biden cares about the working class. Donald Trump cares about the wealthy.
Joe Biden believes in science. Donald Trump believes in science fiction.
Joe Biden believes in the free exchange of ideas. Donald Trump listens to TV..
Joe Biden is not afraid to tackle the pandemic. Donald Trump is a coward without a plan.
Joe Biden believes in democracy. Donald Trump aspires to be a dictator.
Joe Biden would have challenged Vladimir Putin when bounties were placed on the heads of US soldiers. Donald Trump played golf.
Joe Biden is a devout Catholic who walks the walk. Donald Trump cares about photo ops at a church while holding a book he never read.
Joe Biden cares about us. Donald Trump cares about himself.
Joe Biden is a role model for our children. Donald Trump is not.
Joe Biden does not owe money to foreign entities. Donald Trump owes over $400,000,000 to somebody overseas and is in violation of the emoluments clause of the US Constitution.
Joe Biden believes that there is value in listening to the FBI,CIA, and the National Security advisor.. Donald Trump listens to Ivanka and Jared Kushner.
Joe Biden thinks before he speaks. Donald Trump aimlessly tweets.
Joe Biden has a presidential demeanor, is diplomatic, and acts with dignity.. Donald Trump acts like a petulant child.
Joe Biden will bring a calm demeanor to the office which will allow Americans like myself to sleep at night. Donald Trump’s behavior is so reckless that many Americans are afraid to wake up each morning.
Joe Biden understands that the economy cannot be at its best until COVID-19 is eradicated. Donald Trump believes that the economy is the number one issue even if thousands of more Americans are to perish..
Joe Biden would read the weather forecast each day and act accordingly. Donald Trump pulls out his Sharpie and changes the forecast when he doesn’t like it.

Today will be windy with a high near 48 degrees. Bundle up if you vote today. Election Day temps will reach the mid 50’s under partly sunny skies.
