The classic film fantasy “Field of Dreams” was released 30 years ago this past weekend. It reminds us that everyone dreams of having a second chance to right a wrong or make a connection with a loved one from the past. The lead character, Ray, played by Kevin Costner dreamed of connecting with his deceased and estranged father by having a game of catch.
Today, the movie set ball field in Dyersville, Iowa has been turned into a tourist shrine, where literally thousands of people flock to its rural cornfield setting to pay homage to the film’s message. My wife and I were two of those visitors about three years ago. We were amazed to see families from all over the US who traveled there to play ball, have a picnic, and of course, take pictures of themselves walking out of the cornfield.
Sometimes the weather man dreams of having a second chance to make things right, too. No matter how hard we try, though, we can never be as eloquent in relaying our thoughts as James Earl Jones was in explaining the bonds between generations.
Today will prove that one can dream on a cloudy day, too. Temps should reach the low 70’s before mostly sunny skies and highs approaching 80 degrees return for Tuesday.
Whatever your dream…keep it alive!
