The first day of 2019 begins with temperatures well above average. In fact it was 65 degrees just a few minutes after midnight. Temperatures will cool off by tomorrow but will still remain too warm for Delmarva to pick up any snowy weather for the foreseeable future. We’re still waiting for the cold air to plunge south from Canada.
So, how unusually warm was today? Well, just one day into the new year Salisbury is averaging 24.2 degrees above normal! Can that last? I think not! Let’s take a look at what the professionals think.
As you can see from these Weather Channel predictions the second month of 2019 appears to provide the greater chance of seeing wintry weather.
I have been monitoring several weather models so that I can make you aware of any impending changes. Right now, I would really be surprised if we witnessed any nasty winter weather for the next week to 10 days.
If you are a regular visitor to this blog you are aware that long range models, beyond 3 to 5 days, are something not to bet the house on. If you want to live on the edge and really take a chance on a long range model, then you might expect to see some frozen precipitation around the MLK holiday or beyond. Personally, i will wait another couple of weeks before I offer an assessment on those chances.
In the meantime, expect cooler weather for Wednesday and a chance of rain on Thursday.
