Wilbur and Orville Wright flew their experimental aircraft at Kill Devil Hills, NC on this date in 1903. I doubt they imagined that in the 115 years that have since passed that Charles Lindbergh would fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, that the United States would use an airplane to drop atomic bombs on Japan, or that American astronauts would make a nearly 500,000 mile round trip to the moon and back. I’m also pretty sure they didn’t dream that any person could board a plane and travel coast to coast in less than 5 hours.
I suppose we should thank the Wright brothers. We wouldn’t have our weather satellites without their insistence in acting on their curiosity and seeing their dream of flight come true.
Today should be a nice day for those who want to fly, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low 50’s. It may be a bit breezy as well. Have a good flight!
