September is averaging a whopping 13 degrees above normal. There has only been one day so far where we did not top 90 degrees and each and every day seems to bring the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening.
I wish I could say that today would be different. The best hope for visitors to the National Folk Festival in Salisbury is that today’s storms will arrive late and into the overnight hours. Saturday, unfortunately, looks to be quite wet. In fact the very trusted Euro weather model shows the expected total rainfall from today through 7 PM tomorrow to look like what you see in the following graphic representation.
This is certainly one time where most of us hope that all of the forecasters are wrong. The majority of the rain is expected to fall from late Friday evening into the afternoon hours on Saturday. The only good thing in all of this is that the temperatures will drop 10 to 15 degrees.
As if we don’t have enough to worry about, there is a serious concern developing that Hurricane Florence can threaten our area next week. I’ll keep you posted on that.
