Mar 14/It is Irrational to Expect the Weatherman to Always Be Right!

Today is International Pi Day! Pi, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, cannot be expressed as a fraction.  We can only approximate it as about 3.14159.  Mathematicians call that an irrational number.  Does that sound rational to you?

How rational is it, really, to expect anybody to always know Mother Nature’s plans for our weather?  Not very, I suppose, but we try anyway.

Historical weather trends and data that have been studied for centuries help us build a knowledge base that allows forecasts to improve over time.  Thanks, mathematics!

Another cold and blustery late winter day greets Delmarva on Albert Einstein’s 139th birthday.  Wow, Albert Einstein was born on 3.14!

In a touch of irony, physicist Stephen Hawking passed away at age 76 this morning.

High temperatures again today will be in the mid 40’s.

Does the possibility still remain for a significant storm next week?  Yes, the possibility exists, but as indicated in yesterday afternoon’s post there is a great deal of variability in long range specifics.  The one thing that is becoming more apparent is that a 4th nor’easter is probably going to form off our coast.
